What’s the problem with most exercise plans?
Well, actually, there is no problem with exercise itself. The problem lies with the fit and inclination of the Exerciser to stick with the program he has embarked on.
Why would someone have a disinclination to stick with his exercise program?
Two main reasons:
The exercises themselves are unenjoyable.
The amount of time it takes to prepare for, commute to, and perform the exercise no longer fits into the exerciser’s schedule.
Let’s look at just the first reason: the exercises are unenjoyable.
By “unenjoyable” I mean: you hate doing them!
There is an ubiquitous exercise, just to take one example, that is pervasive in almost every training program or class you will ever find: the Mountain Climber. You can hardly get through a group class or workout video without seeing it. You know the one: you’re basically in pushup position, and then over and over again you’re bringing your feet up towards your waist so that your knees come up towards your elbows… and you just keep alternating feet over and over again. It’s like running in place, but in the pushup position.
This exercise mainly works your hip flexors (which almost no one actually needs more work on), and also works your core. But at the same time, it is just god-awful unenjoyable. There is a whole lot of strain on your wrist, which is bent back too far, and you’re huffing and puffing all in the name of expending energy out of your body.
That’s just one exercise. There’s burpees that are no fun. Now you may be moving to the next, and the next, and the next… not enjoying ANY of them, yet this is supposed to draw you into a lifestyle of exercise??? This is supposed to make it easy to keep going and be consistent day after day, week after week, month after month???
No! If anything, it is doing just the opposite. It’s giving you a distaste for exercise, so you quit. And after a few months you say, “I always felt so great after exercising because I know it’s so good for me; I really should start again soon!”
And each time you take exercise up again, your body has already gone back to square one. You build it up a little bit, then either quit or get sick or injured, and you take a long time off. Then you start again… hate it… or get sick or injured… and you stop. And your body goes back to square one.
You stay on the cycle of starting, quitting, and never having anything permanent to show for it.
Exercise is like a flowing stream: while that water is flowing, you have a beautiful stream. Once it stops, it doesn’t take very long for everything to dry up. So too your exercise has to have a constant flow.
But here’s the thing: you are never going to have a constant flow of exercise if you hate what you have to do while exercising!
I really can’t speak for you, because maybe if you have the discipline and willpower of a Navy SEAL. But for the non-SEAL person, setting a goal to daily do something you dread is a surefire recipe for failure. It makes you hate your life. It destroys your peace of mind. It makes you feel that you can’t keep your own promises to yourself.
And then you feel defeated, discouraged, and often… depressed. It truly is hard to feel great about yourself if you are not keeping up your habit of exercise.
The other problem derailing your consistency is that the exercise volume and/or intensity is too much.
Most programs have you working way too hard. “I’ve gotta make up for lost time!”, you tell yourself
But I’m going to let you in on a little secret: when you’re new, you can likely only fully recover from a small amount of exercise. So all of the EXTRA exercise you’re doing is going to waste.
WHAT??? “I’ve been forcing myself to do all this exercise… which I don’t like… and most of it is going down the drain???”
Yep. Any amount of exercise over and above what you can fully recover from is going to waste.
It’s just like when you take too many vitamins and all that you can’t use gets “eliminated”.
And it’s even worse than that: it’s not just wasted, oftentimes it’s detrimental.
Hard exercise lowers your immune system for several hours afterwards. That’s why you may find yourself catching things like a sore throat, overall fatigue, a cold, etc. when you’ve been exercising too hard. I always tell people, “Don’t go visiting anyone sick right after your workout!”
So you’re overworking your body, overworking your joints, and opening yourself up for the real exercise killers: overtraining and overuse injuries. I will go into these at another time.
For now, you’ve learned 2 CRUCIAL facets of your ideal exercise program:
- It has to be filled with exercises you DON’T hate.
- It has to be at a low enough intensity and low enough volume (amount of exercise) that you can fully recover from. You don’t want to waste an ounce of it! A cup can only hold so much, Grasshopper.
My unique and proprietary system is the ONLY system I have ever heard of that keeps these two guiding principles at the forefront. And because you don’t hate what you’re doing, AND it’s easy enough to do day after day, that means you actually have the potential of:
<gasp>
KEEPING IT GOING!!!
That’s right. When you can keep your exercise routine going, you don’t lose what you’ve built!
This is an amazing, ground-breaking, eye-opening discovery!
But nobody is going to put you on this kind of program. Why not? It doesn’t sell.
You won’t look like a fitness model in 8-weeks. Unless you’re already thin, you won’t have a 6-pack in 4 weeks. So when you can’t lie in advertising… when you can’t deceive people… when you can’t overpromise, exaggerate, and hype… how is your message going to rise to the top of all the noise? How can this gem of a system shine in a bed of glitter? It doesn’t.
But let me tell you what it DOES do: it works.
Plain and simple, it strengthens your body, eliminates weak points, and gets all of your muscles strong and “toned” and starting to take shape.
It lays a base layer of fitness and strength over your whole body so that you’re ready for anything. It gets you results and you’re able to KEEP those results and even more importantly… it helps you believe in yourself again because you’re finally able to stick with your exercise program.
No more falling off the wagon. No more yo-yo fitness regimens. No more lost results. No more wasted efforts. No more searching for the “perfect workout”. And no more hating your life because you have to work out.
The routines that make up this system are easy enough to do that you don’t hate it, and it’s filled with exercises you won’t hate doing. THAT, my friends, is a winning combination. Come work with me. I not only teach you everything you need to know, I’m with you, week after week, month after month… guiding, instructing, coaching, giving you that accountability and feedback you need to ensure your success. And I stay with you a WHOLE YEAR!
How can you lose when you have your own personal coach AND you’re on the world’s best exercise system? You can’t. Your success is assured.
If you can’t do something easy, then you’ll never be able to do something hard. So work with me on this easy route. This may be THE most important and high-impact thing you’ve ever done in your life. I know my life wouldn’t be the same without this exercise system. And I want to teach you.
